Need a new name for Merb

Posted by ezmobius Fri, 08 Dec 2006 21:48:00 GMT

Heya Folks. Now that merb is no longer a two day hack for file uploads I think it needs a little better name. I have ended up spending quite a bit of time on it and it is in a production worthy state and is indeed being used in production on some high traffic sites.

I think merb will always be its codename but I want to come up with a new public name for my framework.

So if you have any suggestions please leave a comment. Merb is currently at version 0.0.8 in trunk which will be released as a gem soon. I would like to have a new name for the framework by the 0.1.0 release that will happen in a few weeks.

So bring it on. What should we call this thing?

P.S. You can also come find me in #merb on irc.freenode with ideas, but please leave them here in the comments as well..

I'm a big fan of the name Merb. But maybe that's 'cause it reminds me of an inside joke I heard once.

Hrmm..just some quick thought.. - Wizera : Derived from your name ;-) - Nyx : Greek godess of night!

I somehow like Merb, I never thought of it as Mongrel+Erb after the second of third revision came out. I think it makes a catchy and easily pronounced name.

I actually like merb quite a bit too ;) So I am glad to see others think so as well. I figured I would post this anyway because more then a few folks asked for a name change. Unless someone comes up with such a killer name that it's obvious we should change it then I think it may just stay merb.

I wish I could a more insightful comment, but I agree with the others. I was going to post this as the first comment but realized it might not have been productive.. but now I know everyone else seems to agree, I can express my opinion ;-) Most name changes only end up with something worse (see Switchtower->Capistrano or Phoenix -> Firebird -> Firefox).

Although I like the name Merb, I think you should rename it Sun Casino after the comment spam on this post.
